At AABC Europe, Ioxus Shares Glimpse of Ultracap Future

Earlier this month, a colleague of mine, Chad Hall, spent a week at the Advanced Automotive Batteries Conference in Germany, where 600 attendees from 32 countries gathered to discuss the latest in power generation and energy storage. From numerous sectors – military, energy, automotive and railcars – he heard great enthusiasm for ultracapacitors in general and Ioxus in particular.

He presented a session on potential automotive applications for hybrid ultracapacitors, detailing the value of hybrid ultracaps for computer power back-up, battery disconnect, safety communication back up, airbag back-up power, emergency brakes and lights, security back-up power and power windows.

The feedback demonstrated enthusiasm, and not just from automotive manufacturers. It was clear that Ioxus innovations are setting the pace in the ultracap market. We plan to live up to industry and customer expectations of providing the best technology, specifically tailored to the customers’ applications.

In the near future, you’ll see Ioxus hybrid ultracapacitor products with higher energy and power density than ever before, continuing to lead the industry. This will include:

• Increased cycle life to more than 50,000 cycles
• Larger cells – 6000F
• Even a wider temperature range
• Improved packaging
• Continued price reductions

  • uSTART® Lead-Free Replacement for Truck Batteries

    ONEONTA, N.Y.Jan. 9, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Ioxus uSTART® has received two fleet industry awards for sustainability by eliminating lead-acid batteries with its ultracapacitor-based, drop-in battery replacement.

    "With uSTART, fleets not only realize the benefits of improved starting reliability, there are equally important and real sustainability improvements from lead waste reduction," said Chad Hall, executive vice president and co-founder of Ioxus. "By replacing one of the batteries on a vehicle with a uSTART module, up to 15 fewer batteries are needed over the lifetime of the vehicle.
