Hybrid capacitors make LED advances possible

The adoption of light emitting diodes (LEDs) is on the rise, as makers of flashlights, street signs and medical devices look for ways to extend the lifespans of their products. LEDs give these manufacturers a far more efficient way to deliver bright light with lower power requirements. Hybrid capacitors – a combination of an ultracapacitor and a lithium-ion battery – enhance the value of the LED even further.

In a recent article in CleanTechnica, we explain the many benefits hybrid capacitors offer to the LED market. These include:

- Little to no required maintenance
- Energy density up to 115 percent higher than standard electric double-layer capacitors (ELDCs)

Interest in LEDs is coming from multiple markets and for multiple reasons. Consumers, medical professionals, business owners, municipalities and others like that LED devices last longer, charge faster, incur fewer maintenance costs, consume less power and are more environmentally friendly. The hybrid capacitor makes all of those outcomes possible. As interest in LEDs grows, we expect to see a parallel uptick in the use of hybrid capacitors, as well.
