Ioxus Named to the New York Green Tech 50

Government support for cleantech innovation in New York State is a large factor in Ioxus’ success. Green Capital Empire recognized Ioxus’ growth this past Tuesday at the Green Tech Monster event, where Ioxus was named to the New York Green Tech 50. This list highlights the most promising and fastest-growing private, New York-based companies developing green technologies.

William Lese, managing partner and co-founder of Braemar Energy Ventures, who’s also on Ioxus’ board of directors, spoke during the Green Tech Monster event, citing his philosophy toward cleantech investing:  “Venture-backed companies developing next-generation energy technologies will play an increasingly critical role in the economic, environmental and social well-being of the global community.”  The night featured numerous other key players from green energy and venture capital industries, all discussing the theme of “Financing, Scaling and Exiting in Green Tech.”

Ioxus, chosen from nearly 200 applicants, joins 49 other companies from industries including materials, renewable energy, green IT and energy storage. This distinction follows on the unveiling of the 2012 Global Cleantech 100 list, which recognized Ioxus as a top private company in clean technology. Both recognitions confirm the importance of continued innovation and growth in the cleantech market.

Ioxus continues to develop clean energy technologies stateside, and we are therefore able to encourage local job creation. During the last year alone, Ioxus increased employee count fivefold, and following our acquisition of the Japanese company Power Systems, Ltd., we are consolidating 100 percent of our manufacturing facilities to New York. These distinctions demonstrate just how much cleantech companies can influence domestic economic growth.

  • uSTART® Lead-Free Replacement for Truck Batteries

ONEONTA, N.Y.Jan. 9, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Ioxus uSTART® has received two fleet industry awards for sustainability by eliminating lead-acid batteries with its ultracapacitor-based, drop-in battery replacement.

"With uSTART, fleets not only realize the benefits of improved starting reliability, there are equally important and real sustainability improvements from lead waste reduction," said Chad Hall, executive vice president and co-founder of Ioxus. "By replacing one of the batteries on a vehicle with a uSTART module, up to 15 fewer batteries are needed over the lifetime of the vehicle. This translates into 1,000 pounds of lead that will never need to be disposed of or allowed to affect groundwater."

EU legislation on batteries is embodied in the European Battery Directive.  Its objective is to contribute to the preservation and improvement of environmental quality by minimizing the negative impact of batteries and battery waste.  As these preservation efforts expand, sustainable technologies develop to manage and mitigate these risks.

Replacing a lead-acid battery with uSTART in a typical commercial vehicle creates measurable environmental benefits:
