The Wait is Over Auto Makers. Ioxus’ Titan™ Technology Delivers High Temp Cell

Heat is one of the quickest ways to damage or kill a cell entirely within a module. For over a decade, this has been top of mind for automotive manufacturers and a requirement for wider adoption of ultracapacitor adoption. WithTitan™ Technology, Ioxus has achieved an industry first.

This new line of cells offers the widest operating range on the market for both high and low temperatures. Designed with novel chemistry solutions for this market, Titan cells function properly at temperature ranges of -40 to 85°C, while delivering 2.7 volts. Maxwell’s DuraBlue™ technology, despite their performance claims, cannot survive under the same conditions. Ioxus’ Titan maintains a higher capacitance and a lower ESR at 80°C than Maxwell does at 65°C, as seen in the below graphs, and a far lower leakage current.


As Ioxus’ Director of Research Dr. George Lane, PhD explained, the 85°C performance benchmark required Ioxus to make significant advances in the fundamental science behind ultracapacitor performance. “Titan encompasses the fields of electrochemistry, surface chemistry and physical chemistry, just to name a few. Our innovations have allowed us to achieve one of the biggest technological advances in ultracapacitor technology since commercialization,” said Dr. Lane.

An expansion of the Ioxus iCAP® series, Titan’s breakthrough operating range isn’t just important to auto makers, but several other dynamic high duty cycle applications such as rail, harbor cranes, hybrid buses, and construction / heavy machinery apps.     ONEONTA, N.Y.Jan. 9, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Ioxus uSTART® has received two fleet industry awards for sustainability by eliminating lead-acid batteries with its ultracapacitor-based, drop-in battery replacement.
