“X-Series sets the standard for performance, form factor, and ease of integration for large scale ultracapacitor installations, and is the gold standard for reliability, long life, and high performance.”

UPS/Back Up
IOXUS ultracapacitors and hybrid-capacitors, while providing more power with lower resistance and low cost, also provide large energy storage solutions and contain effective backup capabilities. Module banks of ultracapacitors could easily be integrated with an battery system to provide this additional energy storage backup solution because they have a very similar voltage range. They can take upon themselves all of the power functions, exceed the power demand of the battery, and deal with any abrupt or unusual system power demands. Furthermore, ultracapacitors are compact, sealed, and completely maintenance free, and can be installed in near-inaccessible places.

Ultracapacitors have two operating modes when used with batteries. The first is to keep them in an uncharged state, and the second is to keep them charged, depending on the type of load. The second mode of operation, with an ultracapacitor bank, means that either passive or active balancing of each ultracapacitor cell must be occurring in real time. With IOXUS modules, cells are individually balanced, and adjusted to whatever voltage band is necessary without one circuit throwing off the balance of another. Also, long service life of an UPS system is necessary to achieve a good economic benefit. Ultracapacitor modules can take the critical load off of the battery pack to allow for servicing when batteries show signs of leakage and need to be replaced with new sets.
